Patch Tip #6 - Wogglebug Smooth Out

The 'smooth out' was the least used output on my much-used Wogglebug until I stumbled across this incredibly simple patch:

Plug the 'smooth out' into the 'clock/ chaos control' in. You can hear the result here: smoothcontrol

This is a simplified version of the 'tail-chasing' random patch described by Allen Strange and adapted by Doepfer in the manual to their A-149-1 Buchla Source of Uncertainty tribute. What surprised me is how well-suited the smooth out is to driving the clock/ chaos control: it doesn't need further attenuation - it's just plug and play.

Hi - love the sound. Would you mind telling me what other modules were involved in creating it apart from the WB? Thanks

Cheers! Apart from the WB, I used a Hertz Donut, Maths and Cwejman VCA. The WB's clock out was multed to both Maths envelopes, the first opened the VCA and swept the lin FM index, the second provided a very short exponential pitch bend/ transient to the HD. Delay was the Reverse Echo setting on an EXH Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazarai.

I love that MmHazarai sound. Seems like quite a few modular guys use them. I'm looking to get a delay and at the moment am leaning towards the TTA Z-DSP. Any comments with respect to the Hazarai sound? Thanks Navs.

Well it's digital i.e. don't expect analogue/ tape repeats, but it's fun to use and easy to get great results. The price is right too. I thought I'd miss CV possibilities, but haven't. It's just as much fun to twiddle the knobs. Other than that, just listen to my patches/ demos: there's SMMH all over them!

Sweet! Just discovered your blog btw. Doing some catchup reading. I'm a eurorack modular nut. Recently acquired some buchla... 10 modules worth in an 18 case. Been posting my explorations on Muffs. Looking forward to trying out some of your suggestions.
